About
Follow the string.
Redstring is a live heat board for unfolding true crime cases. This page says who makes it, how the board works, what we promise the people named on it, and how to reach us.
What Redstring is
Redstring tracks the true crime cases people are following right now and ranks them by heat. Each case carries a register set by an editor, a timeline of developments, upcoming court dates, a public verdict poll, and the podcasts, screen titles and books covering it. It is a reference for people who follow live cases, not a place that breaks news itself: every development links to the court record or the publisher that reported it.
How the board is ordered
Ordering is a number, not an opinion. Every case has a 0โ100 attention signal built from news volume and Wikipedia pageviews, scored against that case's own seven-day baseline, boosted when a court date lands inside 72 hours and decaying with an 18-hour half-life. Editors never move a case up or down the board, and sponsorships never touch the ranking. The full method is under "How Heat is scored" at the foot of every page.
Editorial standards
Cases are reported from public court records and press coverage. Every person named on this site is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court, and our copy says "accused", "charged" or "alleged" until a verdict exists. The heavier registers (harrowing, sickening, unspeakable) are used only where guilt has been established by plea or conviction; for pretrial or acquitted cases the register describes the loss, never an unproven person. Verdict polls are reader opinion and are labelled as such. If something on the site is wrong, email us and we will correct it.
Who makes it
Redstring is a Florra product, built and edited in the United States. The board is maintained by a small editorial desk with automated signal collection; the humans decide what goes on the board and what it is filed under, the software decides the order.
Advertising and sponsorship
Redstring is free to read and paid for by Redstring Pro subscriptions, clearly labelled sponsor placements, and display advertising on the desktop side rails, which may be served by Google AdSense. Every paid placement is marked "Sponsored". Editorial is never for sale and nothing paid changes where a case sits on the board. Pro readers see no advertising. Podcasters and brands can book a placement on the Promote page.
