The case

Kewon White, the gunman, was convicted of capital murder Sept 4 in the 2020 I-35 killing of rapper MO3 — an automatic life-without-parole sentence. Prosecutors say rapper Yella Beezy (Markies Conway) hired him; Beezy's own capital murder trial is next.

Where the MO3 murder-for-hire case stands

Updated Oct 4, 2026

The Dallas rapper MO3 was shot and killed on Interstate 35 in November 2020. Prosecutors say the man who fired the shots, Kewon White, was hired to do it by another Dallas rapper, Yella Beezy, whose legal name is Markies Conway. The two cases are being tried separately.

White's trial came first. A jury was seated on August 24, 2026, and testimony from August 26 included the medical examiner, highway eyewitnesses, and a woman who had dated both MO3 and a suspect. On September 4 the jury convicted White of capital murder, which in Texas carries an automatic sentence of life without parole when the state does not seek death.

Conway's capital murder trial was due to begin with jury selection on September 14. On that day both the prosecution and the defense asked for a postponement, saying they needed transcripts from White's trial and time to schedule expert witnesses. Judge Chika Anyiam granted it, and on September 20 the court reset the schedule: a pretrial hearing on October 6 and jury selection on October 26 in Dallas County.

Conway has pleaded not guilty. A conviction of the alleged gunman does not decide the question of who, if anyone, hired him; that is what his own jury will weigh. The case is at the pretrial stage, no verdict has been returned against him, and he is presumed innocent.
